Executive FM emphasizes that often “the system is the problem, not the people” in campus FM.

How Engagements Work

Phase I is conducted virtually (mostly) and involves a series of virtual meetings called the Strategic Start to gather perspectives from a broad cross-section of people. The Precision Diagnostic follows with research, analysis, and surveys to validate the perspectives and develop a comprehensive current state assessment . Following this a Strategy and Prioritization exercise will develop a roadmap for the next steps based on client timeliness, budgets, and urgency.

Phase II is where the heavy lifting begins with the projects that will Deliver the Desired Change. The client determines the scope and scale of Phase II based on their timelines, budgets, and urgency.

Phases I and II can be separate engagements or they can be bundled together at the start for a cost saving as as full scope projects cost less to deliver as some items can be worked on concurrently.

The elapsed time for Phase I is typically two months. The time to complete Phase II is based solely on the scope and scale of the desired changed.

All work is quoted on a fixed cost basis (excluding travel) for budget certainty and all work is 100% satisfaction guaranteed.

About Us

Executive FM Consulting is led by Grant Sommerfeld—former AVP of Facilities at a Canadian university and one of the most credentialed FM consultants in the country. We specialize exclusively in helping post-secondary institutions fix what’s not working in their FM operations—fast. We know what it’s like when pressure is mounting and leadership is losing confidence. That’s why we deliver fixed-price engagements with guaranteed results. At this level, trust is everything.

Grant brings 17 years of experience as a Chief Facilities Management Officer, including nine years as an Associate Vice President of Facilities Management at a Canadian post-secondary institution. This firsthand leadership experience means he understands the challenges and pressures campus FM departments face because he has “walked in their shoes” as a facilities leader.

Grant’s credentials are a testament to his expertise. He earned the Certified Management Consultant (CMC) designation with the second-highest score in Canada and was honoured as a Fellow of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (FRICS) in 2023. He also holds professional certifications in facilities management (CFM) and educational facilities (CEFP), as well as an MBA, ensuring a blend of practical FM knowledge and business acumen.
